7 Unique Ways to Earn Money on Twitter
Posted by Nikko Marasigan in Guest Posts, Make Money Blogging, Twitter on March 1, 2012
Twitter, the immensely popular social networking site which utilizes the SMS style of messaging, has become an important communication tool in modern society since it can relay information in real time. Thanks to its “retweet” function, messages are instantly forwarded to your followers.
Some people choose to use Twitter for gossip, such as passing around celebrity scoops and other compromising details. Others have used Twitter responsibly for worthwhile causes such as spreading information about relief goods in times of calamity. For personal use, there is a wide range of topics and famous Twitter users you can subscribe to. From personal advice, zodiac, machinery, music, politics, medicine, home D-I-Y and others, there is always someone on Twitter to follow.
In 140 characters or less, Twitter can become the medium you need to make extra money online. Before venturing there, learn the few prerequisites in order to make a lucrative career on Twitter:
- Improve your online persona. First of all, develop your personal branding. Take Steve Jobs as an example. The name “Steve Jobs” is far more popular than “Apple”. Steve Jobs’ personal branding is about a man who saved the company who fired him. His insights and business steps are of value to the public. Take notes of what is interesting about you, document and present your content creatively.
- Build solid relationships with trust marketing. Brand relationship building in Twitter is absolutely possible. Companies such as Starbucks respond to their customers. A good company responds quickly to inquiries sent to them. Here, feedback and criticisms as well as contact details can be documented for overall improvement. Keeping your followers in good terms with you builds follower loyalty.
- See things through a businessman’s eye. Integrate the businessman within if you’re aiming to earn money on Twitter. Using Twitter as a business application requires that you ask the right questions and post the right promotions. Instead of casually asking what are on other people’s minds, use Twitter to search trending topics, interests and fields. This way, you can have a clear map on your competitors and potential content that will satisfy your fans.
- Monetize your brand. Making money on Twitter takes time, patience and effort. Since this application has grown popular in epic proportions, some people have transcended the use of Twitter from a conversation tool, into a money making tool.
Now here are 7 tips on how to make money on Twitter
- Create an authority account and sell sponsored Tweets. Online marketers have taken advantage of Twitter’s popularity and the celebrities who use them. In collaboration with a famous person or group, online marketers employ celebrities to pitch in their products. It was said that Kim Kardashian earns $10,000 per endorsed Tweet. Check out Sponsored Tweets and Be a Magpie for more information.
- “Sell” your profile. Allow a third party advertiser to run their sponsored Tweets using your profile. Be careful with giving your profile away as your followers might think that you are running a “bot” (robot) account. Make sure to sell your profile to a representative whose content is of interest to you, and therefore complimentary to your account. See Twittad to learn more.
- Use indirect advertising. Talk as an “unofficial” endorser of a product. Go through the good points and have a little discussion with your followers. Unlike having endorsed Tweets as previously mentioned, this is about you making recommendations to your followers.
- Use URL shorteners. Shortened URLs are used to make your links easier to Share, Tweet and email to your friends. Other than that practical function, URL shortener websites can pay you money by using their service. Let’s say you have a potential viral video link, register it to one of these websites, have the URL shortened, and share away. You can earn up to 20% of recommendations and clicks. Linkbucks, ADFly and Ityim are some examples of link shorteners.
- Learn and harness the power of affiliate marketing. This happens when a user embeds his affiliate’s links along with his Tweets. For example, a well known guitarist answers his fan’s inquiry regarding what guitar is best for a certain genre. Celebrity guitarist then embeds a guitar website along with his response.
- Run a sponsored contest. Popular Twitter users can be employed by an advertiser to start Twitter contests in order to collect valuable feedback. For example a Twitter celebrity could be solicited to Tweet: “In 140 words or less, how do you find the experience of using Product A? Best Tweet gets a prize.
- Write reviews. With a wide group of followers or if you are a specialized licensed expert (again, with a wide following), you can now seek advertisers or promoters to get you to write paid reviews to share to your followers. Write reviews about things you properly understand so you can yield constructive output. Topics can range from celebrities, sports cars, software, music, gaming, etc.
Bonus:
Before embarking on your Twitter conquest, make sure you check these must-use Twitter tools out.
- Buffer: One day you surf the net and in a span of 2 hours, you find yourself wanting to Tweet all the twenty one websites that astounded you to the point of enlightenment. Buffer is the application you need so that you won’t come across your followers as a flooder. It records and documents all what you want to Tweet about and releases them in time, evenly. You can also check out your Tweet’s statistics on it too.
- Marketmesuite: Marketmesuite positions itself as a social media marketing dashboard for business. With this application, you can create reply campaigns that can send off an amount of responses or Tweets to your followers all at the same time. You can also work with other users of this application too via its multi-project framework
- Topsy: Topsy is a search engine specializing in Tweets. Topsy aims to measure your popularity objectively on how much a person would pay attention to your Tweets and take most of what you say seriously. Statistics, retweets and clicks can also be monitored via this app.
Profiting In a Banner Blind World
Posted by murraynewlands in Make Money Blogging on October 17, 2011
October 27 will mark the birthday of the first time banner ads appeared on the Internet. These groundbreaking advertisements appeared on hotwired.com in 1994 and generated a CTR of 78% that created a $24 billion business. They were simple ads, one for AT&T and one for Volvo—the latter’s banner didn’t even send the consumer to the car company’s website but rather to a questionnaire on what type of automobile they’d be interested in. Seventeen years later, online advertising has grown tremendously, yet the average CTR of banner ads today is a fraction of a percent: a measly 0.1%. So how does one generate ad revenue in a world where online consumers have adapted to so easily turn a blind eye to banner advertising?
First, we must ask why the CTR of banner ads drop so much. It’s a two-part answer; banner ads are ignored and when they aren’t, they don’t convert a high rate because the advertisement is delivered at a relevant time. The solution to these issues is to reach visitors where their attention is and when they’re ready for it. In-content advertising allows advertisers to do just this.
In-content advertising is similar to product placement that you regularly see in movies or television shows. This advertising method is contextually relevant and tightly integrated and works for two reasons: Online consumers see and interact with these advertisements and they experience these advertisements when they’re actually looking for the information.
The easiest way to get through to your viewer with in-content advertising is with link insertion. Link insertion allows the viewer to hover the mouse over a word that will then pull up a pop-up to link to the relevant site. Kontera Technologies is one of the leaders of this technology with a decade of research and development. Their technology is able to predict intent by understanding the meaning of the pages and how users interact with the page. INTENTclick, part of Kontera, utilizes this technology while focusing on businesses and websites that have SEO driven making money or saving money content focused around purchase intent.

I’m not a guru, and I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. Instead, I’ll show you truly “out of the box” stuff and give it a slap of my own colourfully opinionated and often “weird” personality and sense of humor.“ I have found Elise’s blog to be a refreshing oasis in the world of online marketing.

What happened to MyLikes? A frustrated review.
Posted by Daniel Snyder in Make Money Blogging, Site Reviews, social media, Twitter on February 16, 2011
I don’t know if I Like, MyLikes anymore. This MyLikes review will let you know why I’m seriously disappointed with the service as of late. Though I have made money with MyLikes and have found numerous quality products to promote (in the past) lately my feelings have changed. Though MyLikes has received a lot of great reviews and has proven itself as a money maker for many using it to earn cash through twitter or facebook, I’ve become quite jaded with the MyLikes service and am increasingly unimpressed with the quality of opportunities available on MyLikes. Some of my greatest concerns lie with the fact that MyLikes is now directly giving members an opportunity to promote scams and false advertising!
MyLikes Review: Promoting Scams with MyLikes
Here’s a MyLikes opportunity that you can promote and earn from clicks, but beware you would be promoting a scam. The “Make Money with Google Course” uses the good name of google to con people into believing they can earn money working from home by doing who knows what, but first you have to buy the course (don’t worry you can get it for only $15 instead of $97 like everyone else!). I don’t really feel bad for people who fall for scams like this, who in their right mind pays an employer to employ them? But anyway, it’s still NOT RIGHT that MyLikes is allowing an advertiser to use this service to promote and push scams.
The above scam has been debunked by Snopes, there are a lot of variations of the wording (including the Make Money with Yahoo version) but you can rest assured Google isn’t hiring and paying anyone to work from home. (Find out the details from snopes research, here.)
Promoting False Advertising on MyLikes
Or if you like you can promote some ads that say one thing but actually redirect to something totally different. There are a number of variations on the below opportunity, and the advertiser will gladly pay you $.15 per clicks from within the United States… while the suggested tweet says “This is SO COOL! Enter your name in this site and in seconds find out who has been searching for u on the net!” and the advertiser link is posted as whosearchingforyou.com, when clicked the site actually redirects to coupondealsdaily.com. In addition can you explain to me how this title and picture have anything to do with anything!?!?
Promoting Plain Garbage on MyLikes
Besides scams and straight up false advertising there is now just a LOT of garbage opportunities on MyLikes that I would never take. I’ve written about blogging integrity over at my friend Ileane’s blog, Basic Blog Tips, you can read that article here. I want my twitter followers to trust and respect my tweets, to know that the things I’m promoting (whether I’m paid to or not) are worthy of their attention. In the past I’ve mistakenly promoted ads that I wish I hadn’t (and now I always follow the URL and check what I’m tweeting about BEFORE I click publish). If I’m going to promote something I want it to be quality and worthwhile, not like A LOT of the opportunities available on MyLikes these days. Take a look at some of these offers you could tweet out and get paid for, “Can you tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese? Take this quiz!” are you serious? Or promote ask.com with the wonderfully thought out tweet “Did you know what Barbie’s real name is?”. Perhaps if you’re a health nut you can promote Resveratrol… which has been claimed by some researchers to potentially be responsible for the positive effects that red wine has on cardiovascular health. Personally I wouldn’t want my name and reputation attached to tweets for any of these silly and ridiculous things (though some of them may well be legitimate). My online integrity is too important to try and make money by pushing useless, and unhelpful content on my followers and readers.
Where are you at with MyLikes? Like it, Love it, Hate it?
It’s your turn. MyLikes? I don’t know if I like MyLikes anymore… Where are you at with the service. Do you use it? Have you noticed the quality of opps has changed? Or perhaps you get excellent opportunities that fit with your niche and earn you a good chunk of cash? Or maybe you don’t care and you’ll promote anything – if the fools click it that is their problem… Let’s hear your thoughts. If you agree or disagree share your MyLikes review here in the comments.
How I am monetizing Info Carnivore
Posted by Daniel Snyder in Blogging, Make Money Blogging on October 18, 2010
Info Carnivore has now been in existence for just over five months. I’ve been exploring different options to monetize the blog, so here are a few of the programs I’ve tried so far. Right now I’m looking forward to the day that I can change the image in this post from some coins to some bills! Some of the income sources are directly implemented on the blog and others are related indirectly. My most recent implementation is an Amazon Affiliate Store, which hasn’t earned me any money yet. I’m wondering if having an affiliate store on a blog is a good idea or not. I can’t think of a reason not to, but I’m wondering how to market it and make it successful.
In Site Advertising
Google Adsense – This was the first program I implemented. It has been largely inconsistent, some days resulting in a handful of clicks and many days resulting in none. I’ve tried various placements of ads within the blog and posts but haven’t been able to pin down a specific method that is more effective than another. To date I’ve earned $46.18 with adsense.
Kontera In Text Advertising – This program seems like it has potential, in-text ads are implemented into pages and posts. They are marked with the double underline and readers can click on them. Clicks earn money. I implemented Kontera at the end of July and to date it has earned me .90 cents! I can earn extra income by referring others to Kontera, so if you’d like to give it a try sign up with this link -> Kontera Referral… Thanks!
Off Site Advertising
Sponsored Tweets – This program allows me to tweet out ads and earn based on clicks. (PPC) You have full control over what is tweeted, and get ads which are targeted to your keyword selection. I don’t utilize Sponsored Tweets as much as I could – and for that reason I’ve only earned $5.22 with it in about 3 months. I can also earn for referring people to Sponsored Tweets so if you want to check this program out please sign up with this link -> Sponsored Tweets Referral…
My Likes – Is a program that allows you to like pretty much anything you want and share it with others. Clicks on targeted campaigns earn you money! You can share your likes on twitter, on your blog, on facebook or pretty much anywhere you want. I’ve not taken full advantage of the power of My Likes yet as it requires an investment of some time. To date I’ve earned $2.32 with My Likes. If you want to give this program a try sign up with this link here -> My Likes Referral…
Sponsored Posts
Social Spark – You register your blog and await approval. Once registered you can take a look at available offers which include paid posts and affiliate posts which will pay you per sale. I’ve only written two posts through Social Spark so far and have earned $18.50. Find out more about Social Spark.
Pay Per Post – Is another part of Izea’s network (Same company that runs Social Spark), and provides similar opportunities. Advertisers can target specific blog niches to get paid posts up. Once registered you will be notified of any potential opportunities. I don’t get a whole lot of opps through Pay Per Post, but the two I have got that fit with my blog have been good and easy to write for. So far I’ve earned $7.75 with Pay Per Post.
Affiliate Programs
As many bloggers know the real money is in affiliate programs. The key to success in an affiliate program is a strong reader base where you have gained their trust and are able to exercise your influence. I feel that infocarnivore is still young and as such has not built a wide reader base where I would have great success with affiliate programs. In addition Infocarnivore has gone through a niche change / expansion recently, causing perhaps some confusion in terms of what affiliate programs to target and what my reader are after. I have recently signed up for a few but other than simple 120×120 ads on the sidebar I’ve not really done anything to market these programs to my readers. The Amazon Affiliate Store which I set up is also brand new. Do you think having an affiliate store on a blog like this is a good idea? As a relatively new blogger, and especially new to affiliate programs I need your advice and tips. Now you know what I’ve been doing, what could I do better? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
